Network Access Control

CIPAFilter’s Network Access Control system is designed to prevent unauthorized devices from connecting to and using your school district network! Examples include, but are not limited to, laptops, computers, wireless devices, cell phones and access points.

Take control of your network and ensure a higher level of security for your servers, important data and printers. Protect your network from intruders and unwanted devices that can contain a number of threats – including viruses.

Eliminate unwanted computers from accessing your network
CIPAFilter will automatically recognize when a new computer, laptop, PDA or other device is connected via wireless or wired connectivity. When this occurs, the CIPAFilter will prevent these devices from connecting to or accessing any part of your network. CIPAFilter will easily allow an administrator to manage devices and add new devices.

Prevent unprotected laptops from spreading new viruses or malware
By eliminating new computers and laptops from connecting to the network, prior to your approval, you can rest assured you won’t have foreign laptop computers spreading viruses and other malware.

Secure your wireless and protect your Internet connection
Many times wireless access points are not secured properly, and new access points can be attached to the network allowing unwanted access by any device. CIPAFilter’s network access control will stop this method of attaching to your network or using your Internet connection.

How It Works

CIPAFilter starts protecting your network by analyzing all the unique devices currently connected on your network. This network analysis includes all devices that connect either with a wired or wireless connection. The CIPAFilter continually monitors the network for any potentially new or unrecognized devices. When a new device is introduced to the network, the CIPAFilter will jam the new device allowing it only to communicate with the CIPAFilter. There are two methods by which an administrator or user can allow or add new machines to the network…

Authentication

By using authentication, a new computer can be added to the network with a simple user logon. When a new computer is added to the network, it will be redirected to a special logon page when opening a web browser. This is the only access the device will have. An administrator, or user with appropriate privileges to add new devices to the network, can allow access to the network for this device and have it automatically added to known and approved computers on your network.

CIPAFilter Management Interface

The web interface of the CIPAFilter allows an administrator to view new devices that have attempted to access the network, add or remove devices, and configure e-mail notification that will send an e-mail when a new device attempts to connect to the network. Not all devices that connect to the network have a web browser which will require their MAC address to be entered into the system manually.
